KIMBERLY LANSING IS THE GIRL (you wish lived) next door. She is bright, funny, and guaranteed to draw a crowd when washing her car on a sunny Sunday after-noon. And to put the bow on this beautiful package, she just happens to be World Poker Tour’s Live Updates Hostess. To this point you may have seen Kimberly doing live updates and interviews from WPT tourneys over the Internet. But beginning with the new season, she will bring her unique and joyful style of interviewing to the tube, sharing those duties with new WPT Hostess Layla Kayleigh. Kimberly began her career in journalism writing for the Associated Press and entertainment magazines like People. “I always knew what I wanted to do,” said Kimberly. “When I was six I would watch Connie Chung, and I thought that must be the best job in the world to be a TV reporter. I went to college and just sort of fell into writing instead of broadcasting. I started work-ing for Hollywood.com, which opened up some other doors which led to the World Poker Tour.”This energetic young woman loves to travel, which is a good thing since the WPT takes her to casinos all over the globe. “You learn stuff about yourself when you are on the road. I wouldn’t call myself a homebody, but I like being at home and controlling my own sched-ule. And I especially miss my little wiener dog, Chloe.”Kimberly loves to play poker, and like every true grinder, has her bad beat stories. “I played in WPT Ladies Night. I was so frustrated. I had pocket aces. They ran into pocket jacks - she turned a jack. Then my pocket queens ran into pocket kings, and I was out!She prefers cash games and describes herself as an aggressive, sometimes very aggressive player. “I play $1/$2 or $3/$6 no-limit. I was very close with my grandfather before he passed away and he liked gam-bling a lot. So when I find myself in a tough situation at the table, ‘I think Poppie,’ tell me what to do! Most of the time, I don’t get any guidance,” she laughs, “but it is comforting.”Poker is a game, and while there are often millions of dollars on the line, Kimberly’s interviews of some of the best (and most serious) pros in poker, reflect her fun-loving attitude.“What I do on the TV show for the WPT can’t always be so laid back. But what I do over the Inter-net on worldpokertour.com is 100 percent me. And what I try to do is bring out 100 percent of who I am interviewing. There are so many amazing personalities in poker, and everyone is so different and interesting in their own way. But you dont see that when they are sitting at the table. When you are spending $10,000 on a game of poker, you might as well have fun. And that is what I hope to bring out in my interviews.”Kimberly’s favorite interviews (so far) include Joe Sebok, Antonio Esfandiari, and Daniel Negreanu. During her interviews she has picked up some tips for playing the game. “Mike Matusow told me never, never, never, with a few cuss words involved, play ace rag. I used to do that, but I took his advice to heart.Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesnt, but I am a very aggressive player and that tip helps to balance me out.” A great dinner and a movie or visiting with friends is Kimberlys idea of a wonderful evening out. A self-described foodie, she loves truffles, lobster and lots of fancy fare, but Kimberly is most passion- ate about a particular delicacy at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. “They have the most amazing tuna sandwiches at the snack bar!” She almost missed a flight because she just had to have one. Kimberly’s Walter Mitty fantasy is to co-host American Idol. But until Simon snatches her away, we will have the privilege of watching this vivacious host as she helps us get to know the pros of the WPT. “If you work hard and you’re dedicated and you love what you do, anything can happen.”
