The 56th Annual World Series of Poker is underway

By Staff

The 56th Annual World Series of Poker begins today! Over the next several weeks, through July 16th, tens of thousands of poker players will arrive in “Sin City” to take their shot at 100 gold bracelet events up for grabs, culminating with the Main Event, which begins on July 3rd.

Last year, Jonathan Tamayo topped a record field of 10,112 players on his way to capturing the $10,000,000 first-place prize and poker immortality. Tamayo’s win marked the second consecutive year an American has won the WSOP Main Event, after Daniel Weinman from Atlanta, Georgia, took home the undisputed world championship of poker title in 2023, breaking a streak of four straight international winners.

A New Era Begins

This year, the WSOP will operate under new ownership. In 2024, Caesars Entertainment announced that it had sold the World Series of Poker to GGPoker operator NSUS Group for $500 million.
