The once in a lifetime outdoor UFC event at The White House produced some epic visuals. In a surreal spectacle blending combat sports, politics, and American symbolism, UFC Freedom 250 unfolded on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14, 2026—marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, Flag Day, and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday

Organized with Dana White’s longtime ties to Trump, the event featured an octagon on the historic grounds, military honors, and a star-studded crowd, culminating in seven straight finishes and a feel-good title win for a U.S. veteran.

Main Event: Justin Gaethje def. Ilia Topuria (c) via TKO (corner stoppage) – UFC Lightweight Title

Justin Gaethje lived out his American dream, dethroning undefeated champion Ilia Topuria in a gritty, bloody war. Entering to Johnny Cash and fresh off viewing the Declaration of Independence in the Oval Office, Gaethje absorbed heavy body shots and liver kicks early but turned the tide with precise jabs, uppercuts, and pressure that swelled Topuria’s face and damaged his eye.

Doctors nearly halted the bout between rounds 3-4, but it continued until Topuria’s corner threw in the towel before round 5. Gaethje, now 28-5 and on a three-fight streak, claimed the undisputed belt in front of fireworks and a roaring patriotic crowd. Topuria (17-1) saw his unbeaten run end in dramatic fashion.

Co-Main Event: Ciryl Gane def. Alex Pereira via TKO (1:27, Round 2) – Interim UFC Heavyweight Title

Ciryl Gane spoiled Alex Pereira’s bid for three-division champion status, stopping “Poatan” with a vicious combination of elbows and strikes after a knockdown. Gane (now 14-2, 1 NC) earned his second interim heavyweight title and positioned himself for a potential rematch with Tom Aspinall. Pereira dropped to 13-4.

Other Results (All Finishes):

  • Sean O’Malley def. Aiemann Zahabi via TKO (Round 2) – “Suga” shook off leg kicks for a walk-off KO and salute.
  • Josh Hokit def. Derrick Lewis via TKO (Round 2) – The undefeated prospect brutalized the knockout artist.
  • Mauricio Ruffy def. Michael Chandler via TKO (Round 1) – A spinning kick and big right ended it quickly for the Brazilian.
  •  Bo Nickal def. Kyle Daukaus via TKO (Round 1) – Dominant ground-and-pound in a strong middleweight showing.
  • Diego Lopes def. Steve Garcia via KO (Round 2) – The featherweight contender opened the card impressively.

The card celebrated American resilience with nonstop action, avoiding weather issues and drawing praise for its entertainment value despite pre-event controversies (including Sean Strickland’s reported removal).

Notable Attendance:

NHL stars and brothers Brady and Matthew Tkachuk were on hand, sharing photos from the White House with their hardware and soaking in the atmosphere. “The boys were in the (white) house with their hardware for UFC Freedom 250” @Wingmenpod posted.

A clip from the broadcast showed the Team USA hockey gold medal champs.

TMZ reported that UFC strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern also attended, greeting fans at the Fan Fest and weigh-ins, even though no women’s bouts were featured on the card (Dana White had considered a potential Dern vs. Zhang Weili matchup that didn’t materialize).

Billionaire and martial arts enthusiast Mark Zuckerberg was seen chatting with Alex Pereira after his second-round defeat. The Meta CEO notably sparred with Pereira in 2025.

From Trump and White’s joint entrance to the military backdrop and post-fight patriotism, UFC Freedom 250 delivered a Hollywood-style night that few could have imagined a year ago. Gaethje’s triumph capped it perfectly for the home crowd.

The event wasn’t without some controversy. Following his fight, Josh Hokit ended his remarks by insulting Michelle Obama.

“Michelle Obama is a man, am I right America?” he taunted.

UFC president and CEO Dana White condemned Hokit’s quip on Monday. “I understand that the Obamas are public figures, but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” White told TIME’s Sean Gregory in a text message. “Everyone knows my position on free speech, but I hate that kind of nonsense.”

TMZ posted a CNN video showing Trump removing a chain that Hokit gifted him following his fight, after hearing the remarks.
